I've seen so many neat craft projects that people have done using an empty bottle. Painting them, turning them into candle holders...etc. However, most of you know I am NOT crafty! This post no less has nothing to do with turning each bottle into something it's not.
A friend of mine who was expecting her 4th child was 9 months pregnant and ready to finish her kitchen because she knew that once that baby boy was here she would no longer have the time or the know how to get it done. She then called on me because I had told her in the past that if you want/need my help I'd be more than happy to come help. Plus it would be a perfect excuse to spend some quality girlfriend time together. Too bad she was pregnant, we could have went through another bottle of wine!
When I arrived she showed me some items that she had previously bought but never knew where to place them. I then began to process my ideas and visions for the space above her cabinets. I positioned all the big items and the greenery first. Not an easy task for someone who is barely 5 feet tall! I wanted to make sure that both sides have the same amount of balance and color. My next task was to ask her if she had any type of table runners/fabric that I could use to cover up all the risers or boxes I had to use to boost them from being hidden behind the crown molding. She actually had some pretty zebra fabric that she had stored in her cabinet for her next canvas project that I thought would a perfect match with the rest of the animal print in her home. As I was placing the remaining items around, I had just asked her to rip the fabric it into 3 different pieces (ripping it gave it more of a vintage look). Again, that would help balance out the space.
I then looked at the space above the cabinets and begin to think it still needed something. That's when I asked her if she had any colorful bottles or something like there of. She advised me to open up her cabinet above the fridge. Holy Moly...I had a ton of choices! There were empty wine bottles with all sorts of color and different labels to fulfill my vision of color and texture. I picked out a few that I thought would go perfect in the space. Some tall, some short and fat and some that just had really cool labels.
Remember when you are trying to fill a space, think outside the box. Go on scavenger hunts through your own home. You never know what you may find! And if you really want to make it fun, drink a little wine! ;)
