Toddler Room Re-Do

After moving to a town in which I knew not one single person I began to miss all the familiarities from our old town.  One in which, was taking of day of decorating or helping a friend get her home in order for company and such.  I began to think of ways to re-organize my own home, re-fresh old pieces and focus on what I already had.  Advice to someone who has OCD, you can only move your furniture a hand full of times before you realize it's time to move on to something else.

That's when, after I quit my part-time secretarial job,  I knew I needed to get back into what I loved to do best.  It just so happened that a friend from back home texted me to see if I'd be interested in putting together her granddaughter's room by using what she already had.  So for a small fee, I agreed!  I thought..."what did I have to loose?"

Before I was set to arrive they had two teenage boys paint the room so it would be ready for me to hang pictures and decorate.  They had questioned me on what colors to paint and after looking at the décor via text message, I suggested a bright pink for one long wall with either stripes or just plain pink to match the curtains and paint the other three walls to match the animal print. They were rough around the edges; but for boys, I thought they did alright.  You can always get paint off of trim with paint thinner!  And by using a cheap caulk you can use that around the edges for a clean, straight look.

When I arrived, I was taken by surprise by what a huge mess this room was.  I had to take into consideration that this was due to them moving, lack of organization and trying to keep up with a 3 year old.

BEFORE

BEFORE
It looks like something was just painted with pepto bismol and a toddler had a fit at this point!  There was a LOT of pink so it was a task trying to distribute it all around and not just in one spot.

AFTER
She didn't have enough curtains for both windows, so I suggested getting shear white ones and doing a pattern of white and pink or doing a tutu valance using fabric and tulle.  I pulled the zebra chair and blankets from the toy room to add contrast.

AFTER

The canopy needs some finishing touches by adding ribbon to tie back both sides so they match.  Also, since she loves dressing up, I suggested using the leopard trunk for gloves, jewelry, socks and what ever else little girls use to feel fancy.

AFTER

This girl had tons and I mean tons of tutus so I decided to showcase of few on a dress up bar.  This was just a rod to hang curtains so I dressed it up with flowers she had that matched the shelf.  "Passion for Fashion" is what she's all about.  The letters of her name were a gift from someone so we had to use them.  Even though the painted pattern was not the same, I thought they were fine as it added more contrast to the room.

As the day wore on, I had ran out of time to even touch the closet.  That's another day, another dollar made!  All in all it was a fun, creative day!!

FOLLOW - UP
This was the picture that was sent to me via text message to show the curtains that they could find in their area.  In order to keep it girlish for a 3 year old they went with Pink Ombre.  Very cute with black rods!!
