Hallway 101 - Part 1

My last post was a touch on consigning and what you can do to make something out of old things you either buy or want to spruce up.  Carrying over from that, I want to touch base a little about a shelf I bought off a consignment site.  When this red jewel popped up, I instantly knew where I'd put it so I messaged the lady and snatched it up.  There was one space that had bare walls and was not really appealing to my home yet...my hallway.  In my experience I've noticed hallways are full of school photos framed in boring frames and/or left over pictures that no one wanted in their living room.  That's not what I wanted for mine.

First, I started with this red shelf that I bought for a fourth of what it would have cost if I would have bought it brand new from Pier 1.  I loved it because of it's design and the fact that it was RED!  As Shelby on Steel Magnolias would say, "it's my signature color"!

I've always wanted a place where I can display family photos, so I began to look through old photos I've kept in a photo boxes.  I have a lot on cds and flash drives but I wanted some that were older to  keep more memories alive.  Once I picked out all the ones that I wanted to display, I went to pick out frames.  I wanted to make sure that there was texture and color when these were being chosen.  Some I already had and some I bought.  There were a few I had in my consignment pile that I spruced up with paint.  Yes, I used spray paint...again!!  Why keep a boring frame from having potential?  I then did a scavenger hunt around the house to see what I had to add drama to the space.  I brought all the items together and BAMM here you have it:

Stay tuned for my next post as I finish up my hallway.  Pictures and blog to follow!

'Til then,

Stay Tidy
